Oak Tree Cottage

Account update!! So obviously we’re in a lockdown so Oak Tree Cottage has been out of action and very quiet ie, not much to Instagram. Then I started thinking that we have so many ongoing projects at Greenacres that I wanted to share somewhere, like an online timeline, but I didn’t want a million IG accounts so I’ve decided. So to compile all our projects to one account... ongoing projects include: Our veg garden - currently transforming a bit of a ‘wild’ paddock into a chi...cken run and fruitful veg garden Our holiday cottage - Oak Tree Cottage is a lovely cottage next door to our home, self catering, with private parking and garden, sleeps 4 Our own home renovation - most of the focus is on other projects for now but we are getting architects plans drawn up to transform our home and in the meantime doing some ‘sprucing up’ The Treehouse - this is our biggest and most exciting project in the pipeline... more on this soon!! #townhousetocountryhome See more

The Veg Patch!! The past few weeks this part of the garden has changed so much which has been really exciting. Our mission was to get the beds dug and ready for planting our first veg this month and despite the wet and soggy weather working against us, Tom’s worked non stop (with a little help). We have: dug out 5 beds, removed the blue container, cleared a LOT of holly (which gained us an extra few feet of field) put up the tall fence panels to give the Bnb extra privacy, in...stalled a new picket fence for the Bnb, moved the chicken house and secured their part of the field with 6ft high fencing and built 2 massive raised beds and created our new compost area. It’s back breaking work and the grass has taken a bit of hit with so much movement and a lot of rain but it’s starting to warm up and dry out so hoping it will come back to life our greenhouse is still on order so the conservatory is full of seedlings and chitting potatoes.... after all this effort, no pressure at all to harvest some good veg #vegpatch #gardentransformation #gardeninprogress #thegoodlife #selfsufficiency #growyourown #greenacres See more

TREEHOUSE... our most exciting project ... we can finally reveal the plans that were submitted today for our eco / luxury tree house, we really hope this will be both a relaxing retreat for guests as well as an awesome architectural feat in our private woodland... big thanks to @hillsandcompany for joining us on this journey, Tom and I have wanted to build a treehouse for years... a bit of a way to go until our dream becomes a reality so until the. fingers crossed for planning approval #treehouse #luxurytreehouse #ecotreehouse #treehouses

A new bathroom for us!! I’ve been dying to redo the bathroom since we moved in back in September ... but we had to prioritise Oak Tree Cottage and I couldn’t for love nor money find a plumber who was available!! So, I’m sooo pleased that it’s finally happening. The original bathroom had a lovely magenta shower curtain which covered the weirdest shower arrangement of a wooden ceiling, two trays and a pitiful electric shower on its last legs. We also inherited a wired in radio ...with CD player , a rubbish old electric towel rail and fan heater... all of which is being ripped out During the ripping out all the plaster board had to come down which exposed the original wall of the house with a window!! Also some HUGE rodent droppings less about those! The new bathroom is going to have a tiled walk-in shower, a free standing roll top bath (that I’ve always dreamed of!), we’ve decided on tongue and groove panelling around the outside for a cottagey feel and underfloor heating which will be soooo nice as previously there wasn’t even a radiator in this room so it’s soooo chilly! Flooring will be dark wood, we have opted for a product called Karndene. I prefer wood but in a bathroom it just wasn’t practical for long time use and Karndene is cheaper to install, looks MUCH better than laminate and holds heat from the underfloor heating really well as has a built in insulation. Also with the tongue and groove panelling, wooden panelling isn’t recommended in bathrooms due to water / wood ... rotting etc, unless it treated in a resin finish (very ) so we have opted for MDF which is moisture resistant and once painted looks #bathroomrenovation #cottagebathroom #karndeanflooring #tongueandgroove #englishpanellingcompany See more

Ella’s bedroom, another little before and after. We felt it was nice to give this bedroom a facelift since we were turfing her out of the old room I make way for her little sister, and it was fun to do I tried to keep the budget low and other than a few Ikea bits, tired to buy little bits from independent businesses (I’m an Etsy addict). My favorite is the gold stars that Ella helped me stick to the wall, but I’m also pretty pleased with the blinds too which were made locally and finish it off perfectly! #kidsbedroom #farrowandballsettingplaster #kidsroommakeover #kidsroomdecor
